Did you know?
Long before Indonesia was born, Central Sulawesi was already inhabited by ancient humans from Southeast Asian tribes — the ancestors of the Austronesian race, who came from Yunnan (Southern China) and Taiwan thousands of years ago. 🌏
Their long journey across mountains, seas, and dense jungles ended in what we now know as the valleys of Palu, Napu, Behoa, and Bada — four sacred valleys that became the center of Megalithic civilization in the heart of Central Sulawesi.
Based on traces of life found around these sites and through carbon dating of stone artifacts and organic remains, experts have concluded that the Megalithic culture in Central Sulawesi began around 3,500 BC — approximately 5,000 years ago!
However, this result is not yet the final conclusion, as researchers also discovered that 3,000 years before the arrival of Austronesian people, there were already signs of earlier human life in the Behoa Valley.
This suggests that the region may hold two layers of ancient civilization — one Austronesian, and another even older and more mysterious. 🌀
In those valleys, they left behind eternal legacies:
🗿 Stone statues resembling humans and animals
🪨 Kalamba (stone burial jars)
🪞 Dolmens and offering altars
All built by ancient hands — without metal.
To this day, archaeologists have discovered 118 sites containing 2,007 megalithic artifacts, but many believe that countless others remain hidden within the forests of Lore Lindu, waiting to be rediscovered.
Every stone holds a message, every carving holds a mystery...
💫 Who were their creators? And what were they built for?
